Reading and spelling

All of Key Stage 1 ask that you please read daily with your child. Reading regularly is the only way children will become fluent readers and develop a love for reading. We provide daily reading for your children in class in a variety of different ways but this needs to be followed up at home too. Children have access to changing their books every day if needed. Year 2 are encouraged to take responsibility for changing their books but of course need some prompt still. Year 1 are regularly given opportunities to change theirs too. Bug Club is active and all chn should have a wide selection of texts in which they can read online at home. All books have the option of reading to the child and the child has a selection of questions throughout to answer (click on the bugs you see). Every time you read at home, record in the red book log and your child will receive a token in school. This token goes into a prize draw for each half term. Reading at home also rewards children with reading certificates given out in school assemblies, 25/50/75 and 100 reads at home.

Children learn spellings in school through phonics and other programmes. They will regularly come home with a list of spellings they are learning. Please ensure your children can read these spellings and practise writing them too.

Trim trail

All children have access to the trim trail during the school day on a rota system. We ask that no children should be on the trim trail before and after school due to safety.
